NORTH ATLANTIC FIDDLE CONVENTION BLOG POST
I’ve been involved in the North Atlantic Fiddle Convention (NAFCo) since 2006. It’s a cultural exchange for artists, academics and fiddle/dance enthusiasts. Scholars, practitioners and teachers share ideas, research and knowledge from the cultures and diasporas of the North Atlantic region. NAFCo combines a festival with an academic conference, featuring interactive workshops, concerts, interviews, public lectures, academic papers, busking, and live-music sessions in pubs.
NAFCo has taken me to Newfoundland (2008), L/Derry (2012) and Cape Breton Island (2015) in addition to the founding city of Aberdeen (2006 and 2010). The next NAFCo will take place 11th-15th July 2018 in Aberdeen and I’ve written a blog post to help publicise the event. Thanks to Jenny Sturgeon for encouraging me to put pen to paper in describing the songwriting process. Read all about it here!
